about

A year and a half after the release of Steep Action, Nuns Honey return with “Don’t Call It.” In line with the sonic palette introduced on their debut EP, “Don’t Call It” continues to hone the band’s synth-pop and new wave sensibilities while simultaneously showcasing Tim Goodwin’s seemingly effortless ability to craft minimal yet memorable arrangements. With a refreshingly stripped down sound, “Don’t Call It” shys away from big, glossy production techniques and thoughtfully refines the home-recording spirit at the core of Goodwin’s music making practice.

Lyrically, Nuns Honey maintain a unique degree of abstraction that sketches scenes and characters without explicitly drawing definitive lines toward one particular theme. On a personal level, Goodwin describes his lyrical inspiration for the track stemming from a particular “anxiety about moving fast.” He notes that there are times when living in New York and “meeting all these sharp and talented people [promotes] feeling a need to understand everything, and [evaluate] yourself.” The melodic builds and breaks on “Don’t Call It," mirror the vacillation between self doubt and assurance. All in all, Goodwin reflects “it can be unclear what you're evaluating or if it makes sense to do so” and, in moving at his own pace, revels in the joy and mystery of passing time in his own unique way.
